Book Jacket Design

Prompt:
You are a graphic designer who has written your first fan fiction novel, and your publisher asked you to design the book cover. You will first choose a book genre and identify the audience. You will then create a book jacket that will include a front cover, back cover, front flap, and spine. The typography and final design must align with your novel’s genre and intended audience and apply design principles and best practices.
Description:
The original books that I based my fanfiction novel & book cover on is the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. The genre of these books is defined as “Regency romance”, and the intended audience is young to middle aged women. These books are set in London during the Regency era, taking place from 1813-1827. My fanfiction is a romance novel like the original series, it’s a spin-off of the main series’ story line. The intended audience of my novel will be young to middle aged women who like romance novels or fans of the Bridgerton series.
I chose the typefaces Angwie and Linux Libertine. I used Angwie for the title. It is a decorative serif font that goes with the time period and romance theme of the novel. It is bold enough to make the title readable even at a small size, and the decorative serifs add interest to the typography.
I used Linux Libertine for the rest of the text on my cover. It’s an easy-to-read serif font and it fits the time period well. It reads well at a small size, so I used this for areas of smaller text to allow the title to stand out. In the early 1800s when this story takes place, sans-serif fonts weren’t being used yet so I chose serif fonts to be accurate to the time period.
