Clean Water Poster

Prompt:
You have been hired by a nonprofit organization heading up a global clean water initiative. The organization is opening three offices in Vietnam, Nigeria, and Mexico. As part of their marketing campaign, the organization would like you to design a flyer for one of these locations. The flyer will be distributed throughout the community to increase awareness and encourage members of the community to volunteer.
Description:
I chose Nigeria as the country I would create a flyer design for. Nigeria is very diverse, it has over 50 languages, 250 dialects, and many ethnic groups. This diversity is expressed in the forms of music and art of many kinds (Federal Republic of Nigeria).
Access to sanitation facilities and clean water is a large problem for many people living in Nigeria. In northern Nigeria, only 30 percent of its population has access to sanitation facilities and clean, safe drinking water (USAID). In 2018, around 60 million Nigerians were living without access to clean drinking water (World Bank Group).
I kept the target audience in mind while creating my design to keep it culturally accurate. In my research I found that Nigerian women and girls are the ones who are most impacted by lack of water. These women and girls are responsible for providing their families with safe drinking water (World Bank Group). I chose an image of children and women carrying water to be accurate.
For colors, I used green, red, and yellow. These three colors have a positive connotation in Nigerian culture, which helps the poster show its good intentions. I chose a shade of green that is based on the color of the Nigerian flag. This color can symbolize Nigerian pride. I created a divider for the design based on patterns I saw in Nigerian art and textiles. Art and creativity are very important in Nigerian culture.
